On False Trail
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 24. An anonymous tip sent a party of Auckland detectives aboard the Union Company vessel, Tarawera, at Prince’s wharf on Saturday morning in search of the missing 16th-century painting, ‘Madonna and Child with St. Sebastian,” which was stolen from the Auckland Art Gallery on Thursday. After a thorough search of the ship the detectives found nothing, however. The painting is said to be worth £650 on present values, values.
The keeper of the gallery has appealed again for the return of the lOin square painting by the Italian artist, Paris Bordone.
