K. Ward Returns To Form In Table Tennis
Th« top seed, K. Ward (Avon-, side), won the under-18 boys’ singles by beating his clubmate, J. Weir, in a hard-hitting final during the Canterbury closed table tennis championships. which ended yesterday. Ward, whose form has been slipping in recent weeks, showed true aggression to beat Weir, 21-fi, 21-17. Miss M. Green (North Canterbury) had numerous successes, winning five events out of the six she entered.
The highlight of the final was the defeat of Miss' M. WardHolmes (Selwyn) by Miss M. Row (Linwood) in the under-18 girls’ singles. Miss Row, who usually is outclassed by the other girl, gave a good display of controlled attack to win in straight games. Another upset was the defeat of K. Ward and Mis* M. WardHolmes by J. Flint, and Miss M. Green in the final of the
