Caretaker Dies After Fall
(New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, July 18. The caretaker of the Hastings Boys’ High School died after falling into an excavation at the school when reinforcing steel penetrated his throat late on Friday night or early Saturday morning.
He was: Herbert Woodtrop Alrey Bousfield, aged 68. Mr Bousfield left his home on the school property
about 10.45 p.m. on Friday to lock up the school library after a meeting. When he did not return a four-hour search was made. He was eventually found in a small excavation where a new block is to be built. It was just outside the back gate of his house. Reinforcing steel was protruding from the poured concrete and a length of the steel had penetrated under his chin and through his mouth. He was unconscious when found and died in hospital soon after admission. Cyclist Killed A cyclist died in Te Kuiti Hospital on Saturday from injuries suffered when he was knocked down by a truck a few hours earlier in Otorohanga. He was: Wira Tani Thompson, aged 60, of Otorohanga. The accident occurred on the State Highway at Otorohanga at 6.45 p.m. on Saturday.
