Yesberg And Hallum For the second year In succession D. Hallum, the defend‘ng champion, wIM meet T Yesberg tonight in the final of the Canterbury Amateur Snooker Championships. Hallum had a close match with R Franks last evening to gain entry. The final frame could have gone either way. Franks was first to display his skills in the early part of frame one. Hallum was not potting with his usual fluency and his opponent was quick to realise this. With a sure yet speedy appraisal of the slttia t'.on, the former New Zealand champion proceeded to pot. His positional play was Immaculate and with many fine pots, he raced away to a 63-7 lead. The seven points on Hallum’s scorn was from an Inadvertent “In off” on the black. The final score of frame one was 84-8. Hallum gave an improved exhibition in the second stanza. His safe plav gained authority and his potting became more exacting. Franks was In hot pursuit, however, and was in a position to win with four balls remaining on the table. He potted the brown and the blue but conceded the pink and with ft the frame. Experience was the main contributing factor to Franks's winnine frame three. With 16 of the 21 balls grouped tn one corner of the table Franks was In his element. He built up a big lead and won as easily as the score of 80-23 suggests. The quick reversals of form continued In frame four. Hailum went Into an early lead of 17 but was soon on the receiving end of a well complied break of 28. He overcame this tn fine style, setting his opponent the task of potting the pink and black to win. Franks was unequal to the task and the game went Into frame five.

Play was very even In this frame until Franks scored a 14 break. Franks held this margin and led by nine points on the colours. Hailum then applied a magnificent double snooker, gained six points, potted the brown, blue and pink to win the frame and the match.
