Boat Needed Repairs Temporary repairs enabled the fishing boat - Mary G, which reported engine trouble when 60 miles from Godley Head, to reach Lyttelton under her own power by 11.3 p.m. yesterday. The signal tower at Lyttelton received the radio call from the Mary G at 2.5 p.m., saying the engine would not start and assistance was needed. The boat was on its way back from the Chatham Islands. Another fishing boat, the Northern Light, left Lyttelton at 4.15 p.m. to tow the Mary G back. At 7 p.m., however, another message from the Mary G said the repairs had been made and that she had sufficient fuel to reach port. The Northern Light waited 20 miles beyond Godley Head in case extra fuel was needed, and followed the boat to Lyttelton.
