More Traffic Lights For City Intersections

The preparation of plans and the calling of tenders for another seven sets of traffic signals were approved by the City Council last evening on the recommendation of the city development committee.

The intersections chosen were: Colombo street-

Brougham street; Colombo street-Wordsworth street; Fitzgerald avenue-Moorhouse avenue; Fitzgerald avenueBealey avenue; Rolfes ton ave-nue-Woreester street or Rolleston avenue • Gloucester street or Rolleston avenueArmagh street; Barbadoes street-Ferry road; and Victoria street-Salisbury streetMontreal street.

■ These were described by the committee as “isolated” intersections as distinct from those which were part of a system—too close to adjacent intersections, some of which were already signalled, or part of an area or principal traffic route for which signal control should be provided on an over-all basis. Efforts this year should be directed to completing the “isolated” intersections and making a start on some form of area control, the committee said. A report would be prepared on priorities for over-all control.
