Farm Costs

Sir, —It would appear from this correspondence that Mr Holyoake has admitted that his policy of full or overfull employment must result in constantly increasing farm costs and that he is not prepared to take any effective action. While appealing for increased production he is prepared to allow our foodstuffs to be slowly priced off the world market. Nothing could be more suicidal or unfair to the farming community. The Ashburton electorate clearly showed that they wanted a candidate who would speak out instead of slavishiv following the party line. Surely the other rural Canterbury seats of Selwyn and Rangiora will also take action to secure like-minded candidates. Nothing is more urgent to get some such independent line of thought in Parliament and endeavour to educate public opinion.— Yours, etc.. INDEPENDENT NATIONAL. June 20, 1966.
