Superior Magic
A Christchurch magician, who has returned from the tenth International Brotherhood of Magicians convention at Sydney, said yesterday that the standard of amateur magic in New Zealand was superior to that in Australia. Mr R. B. Scandrett, who is also known to television audiences as De Lamo, said New Zealand magicians were more competent and had better repertoires of tricks than their Australian counterparts. Mr Scandrett, who is also president of the Canterbury Society of Magicians, said arrangements were well in hand for the eleventh international convention of New Zealand Magicians to be held at Christchurch from December 26 to January 1. Mr Scandrett expects that more than 200 magicians, included at least 15 from overseas, will attend the convention. *
