Rugby Suffered In Second Half
VARSITY B 24: L. North P. Duncan and F. Sevele tries; D. P. Gaffikln three conversions and three penalty goals. MARIST 6: V. Viaaso and P. L. Doig tries. A very bright and entertaining first half ended with University B leading 21-3. The students were clearly superior in all department and looked set for their most comfortable win of the season. The fact that they could only score three pointe to Marist’s three after the interval reflected not so much a rejuvenation by Marist but a degeneration of the game into a dismal affair. Marist certainly played with more purpose during this period than it had earlier. However, its efforts may have been better rewarded had Marist not dissipated Its energies so often in the form of bad-tem-pered outbursts. The game of Rugby suffered. During the first half the University backs, provided with good ball by the forwards, ran with thrust and purpose. The University second five-eighths, E. Hewitt, and a wing, L. North, were outstanding. All the forwards played well with the two loose men, G. Sinclair and Dun-
can, being particularly prominent. The best of the Marist backs were B. McAlister and the fullback, M. Forrest, but the backline suffered generally through cross-field running and lack of variation on attack. Both of Marjst’s tries were good ones scored by forwards, and throughout, T. McKendry, the No. 8-, were in everything. Several of the Marist pack, however, would have emerged more favourably had they directed their attentions purely towards playing Rugby. Referee: Mr B. E. Powell.
