New Bid For World Sugar Pact

(N.Z.P A. Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, June 19. A new attempt will be made in London this week to produce a formula leading to a new long-term international sugar agreement.

The last international agreement virtually ceased to function in 1961. Since then several attempts have been made to reach a new understanding. Last May the United Nations conference on trade and development established a working party to consider whether an interim arrangement was possible and, if so, to prepare a draft framework for it It was then hoped that if the first stage could be achieved, the working party might consider the possibilities of a scheme leading to a

comprehensive long-term agreement. It is this working group which will hold a three-day meeting from tomorrow. After three days the working party will immediately report its findings to Dr. Raul Prebisch, secretary general of the conference. The report will then be considered by the organisation's sugar consultative committee with a view to convening a new session of the United

Nations sugar conference. Later in the week world sugar exporters will meet at the International Sugar Council's headquarters in London.
