TO CLASH TODAY

Doomben Fancies (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) BRISBANE. Three top fancies for the Doomben Ten Thousand, Maritana, Time and Tide, and Redcap, will clash in the Delaney Quality Handicap at Doomben today. The race will be run over seven furlongs less 68 yards, the same distance as the Ten Thousand, and today’s result is likely to have a big bearing on the current market for the big race, to be run on July 2. Maritana, which was second to Castanea in the Stradbroke Handicap, is favourite for today's race at 5/2, in spite of a 91b weight rise. Maritana impressed at his Anal trial on Thursday, and clocked 50sec for the half-mile, although hard , held.

Maritana beat other Delaney starters. Even Better, Redcap, Maybe Lad and Shallow Water in the Stradbroke, and many believe he should have no trouble beating them again.

His biggest danger is likely to be the Epsom and Newcastle Newmarket winner. Even Better, which will meet Maritana on 101 b better terms than in the Stradbroke.

Time and Tide, which is currently third favourite for the Ten Thousand, behind Citius and Maritana. has worked faultlessly on the track and h*s connexions believe he is regaining top form at last.
