LANGFORD TROPHY
R. J. Walsh In Lead (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. The Te Rapa apprentice, R. J. Walsh, has taken a clear lead at the half-way mark in the competition for the Bren Langford Memorial. Three wins at Ellerslie on Treble are mainly responsible for Walsh’s 22 points, seven ahead of L. R. Norris. In the third and fourth places respectively are the southern riders, W. C. Gye and A. R. Swanson, closely followed by D. J. Finlay and P. R. Whiteman.
The leading 10 with individual points at this stage are:—R. J. Walsh 22; L. R. Norris 15; W. C. Gye 14; A. R. Swanson 13; D. J. Finlay 11; P. R. Whiteman 10; M. R. Laurence 8; R. J. Fergus, C. F. Walker and L. J. Gestro 6.
Sponsored by the Northern Hurdle Horsemen’s Association, the Langford Memorial will conclude on August 31, and the presentation to the winning rider will be made in his home province the following month.
