DOCKING OF COWS

S.P.C.A. To Make Check (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 17. The S.P.C.A. has decided to take strong action against people practising the docking of cows and calves tails. The national president, Mr W. J. Gilbert, said tonight that the docking was not being done humanely by many farmers. “It often causes mutilation to the animals," he said. “This results in a lot of pain and suffering.” The federation was told the reason for the introduction of the practice was the inconvenience of the tail to the milker in “herring-bone type” sheds.
