BAILINS INDS.
Report Of Progress The directors of Ballins Industries, Ltd,, Christchurch, advise that the trading and overall profit position for the six months ended March 31 has shown a steady increase compared with the corresponding period last year. “The considerable increase in first class hotel accommodation now available in Christchurch has resulted in a lower occupancy rate in our company’s hotels, and until there is a greater demand for the accommodation now available, the earnings in this department will be affected,” says the chairman (Mr N. W. Millner) in a report to shareholders. Licences “The recent further reduction in licences for wines and spirits will result in less imported lines being available, but we are fortunate that gin is now being produced in New Zealand and good New Zealand wines are also available. “Taking these factors into consideration, the directors feel that with the company’s wide interests, the final result for the year should still show steady progress.” The directors have declared an interim dividend for the six months ended March 31 at the rate of 4 per cent This is at the same rate as last year. The share register of the company will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 15, for the purpose of calculating this div idend, which will be payable on July 29.
