Another Airlift To U.S. On Sunday
The third airlift of horses this year from New Zealand to the United States will leave early on Sunday morning from Christchurch Airport.
A Flying Tiger Line’s CL44 swing-tail cargo aircraft, chartered by the New York trainer, F. Mollica, is due to arrive at Christchurch from Sydney at 8.15 p.m. tomorrow to load 18 horses bought by American syndicates in recent months. On board will be six horses secured in Australia. A simplified system of stalls will be used for each horse and loading is expected to be completed in time for the aircraft to take off at 12.15 a.m. on Sunday on its way to the United States via Tahiti. Two attendants and a veterinary surgeon will join the aircraft in Australia and it is expected that another three attendants —N. L. Berkett, jun., B. Buchanan and R. Thompson will accompany the horses from Christchurch. The horses to be loaded in Australia include two wellperformed pacers in Stormy Bruce and Kalama's Peak. The New Zealand horses include Flying Note, Flying Look, Maggie Spangler, Freestyle, Lady Charles, Gold Boa and Seay Boy, purchased by
R. Shuttleworth; Main Reason, purchased by E. Cobb; Bede, Bruce, Misty Prince, Solemn, Soanga Boy and Caledonian Scott, purchased by Mollica; and Le Whip and Rekab, purchased, by F. Gerry. Angelita is being sent to join her owner, K. Williams, formerly of Greenpark, who is employed by Mollica. Other horses will make up the load, but negotiations for their sale have not been completed. At least one of the horses named earlier may be replaced and he may be sent to the United States by sea.
