Logan Count Should Extend Record

Logan Count is expected to make a bold bid to gain his fourth win for the season in the Oxford Handicap at the Rangiora Trotting Club’s winter meeting tomorrow.

Logan Count won impressively on the first day of the recent Ashburton meeting after starting from 72 yards, but failed rather badly two days later when he competed in a stronger class.

In his second start Logan Count raced back on the inside until approaching the furlong post He then tried to improve along the rails, but became squeezed for room and went to a break. At the time he was travelling at least like a place-getter if not a winner. He is one of the most promising horses of his gait and will only need to receive a reasonable run to make amends in this race. Remember When was a decisive winner over 12 furlongs on the second day of the Ashburton winter meeting. The Light Brigade five-year-old again looks to be one of the better prospects and might be capable of making a race of it with Logan Count King’s Cord has raced most consistently lately, finishing fourth over two miles behind Glen Dee at Ashburton last time out. That effort entitles him to serious consideration in this field. He will be bracketed with the sneedy but unreliable Prince Cord.

Melissa and Rough Sea appeal most of the others on the limit, and Big Charge and Summit Talk could be place prospects from 24 yards. The T.A.B. double will be run on the Rangiora Winter Cup and the Eyreton Handicap, Why Not and Lustre Scott forming the likely favourite combination. An on-course double will be run on the Waikuku and First Sefton Handicaps. A non-totalisator race for two-year-old trotters will be run at 10.30 a.m. Fine weather is forecast and the track should be in good order, if a little slow.
