RHINE WHALE
Big Welcome In Bonn (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter — Copyright) BONN, June 12. Moby Dick, the white whale that has taken to swimming in the Rhine, was given V.I.P. treatment when it reached Bonn today. Large crowds lined the riverbanks as the 15ft Arctic Beluga whale slowly passed the Rhineside Parliament Building and the Foreign Office. Snow-white when he first appeared in the Rhine last month, Moby Dick is now dotted with black spots, which have aroused expert controversy over their origin. One school of thought maintains they are caused by oil in the contaminated waters, but a zoological expert insists they are freckles, caused by sunburn.
