R. J. Charles, of New Zealand, was one of four golfers tied for second place after the first round of the 100,000-dol-lar Memphis Open tournament, United Press International reported. With Charles on four-under-par 66s were the Americans, G. Littler, D. Douglass, and W. Garrett. Leading the field on 63 was B. Yancey (United States).
