RECEPTION FOR CHOIR

Dorian Singers A reception will be held in the Civic Theatre this morning for the Auckland Dorian Singers who are giving recitals in the theatre this evening and in the' Christchurch Cathedral tomorrow afternoon.

The choir, of about 60 members, specialises in a capelia music of all periods. Its unusually wide repertoire is made possible through its size and standard, and it is rigorously selective in membership.

Several madrigals and songs by Vaughan Williams, Bartok and Bbnjamin Britten are included in this evening’s programme. The singers will also perform Handel’s “Dixit Dominus,” with the John Ritchie String Orchestra. After the recital the singers and guests will have supper in the City Council chambers.

On Sunday afternoon the choir will present a selection of motets, and works by Bach, Harris, Palestrina and Penderecki.

Members of the choir raised more than £l2OO for this trip —by collecting scrap metal, organising raffles and stalls, holding “at homes,” singing in commercial premises for fees, and making individual contributions. They also received grants from various trusts.

The choir will leave by air for Auckland on Monday evening.
