DISMISSAL BY PEKING
(N.Z.P.A. Reuter —Copyright) TOKYO, June 3. China has dismissed Peng Chen, the Mayor of Peking and a leading figure in the Communist hierarchy, from his post as first secretary of the party’s Peking commit-
tee, Radio Peking reported today. For weeks past, Peng Chen’s subordinates have been criticised in a campaign against “bourgeois and revisionist" intellectuals.
There have been strong reports that the attacks have really been aimed at Peng Chen. He ranks ninth in the Communist Party’s ruling politburo.
