WAR ON POVERTY
Negroes Want Defence Funds (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, June 2. A militant Negro organisation called on President Johnson today to end the Vietnam war and divert thousands of millions of dollars from defence spending to the war on poverty in the United States The 80,000-member Congress of Racial Equality made its demand at a civil rights conference in Washington, called by the President to discuss ways of fighting Negro poverty and discrimination.
