“Unsuitable” Crime Prevention Film

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, June 3.

Senior police officers today pronounced a British-produced crime prevention film as unsuitable for general exhibition in this country.

Made for the British Insurance Association and brought to New Zealand by its affiliate, the Council of Fire and Accident Underwriters of New Zealand, the film has already been screened on British television. It was well received.

But the police officers who saw a preview in Wellington today consider it could give too many tips to potential law-breakers in New Zealand’s unsophisticated crime climate. The film describes the planning and execution of a major burglary by a criminal gang, and shows how proper security precautions could have made their job impossible. Assistant Commissioner G. C Urquhart said that the.film carried a valuable message for property-owners and businessmen. There was little in the film which would be new to professional burglars, but some points, particularly the gang aspect, could give juveniles the wrong idea. It is likely the film will be

shown to restricted audiences of insurance men, businessmen and property owners.
