AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES
Market Closes Fully Firm
SYDNEY, June 2.
Values for better descriptions of Merino fleece and skirtings were fully firm on the final day of the Sydney wool sales today, compared with the improved level of values the previous day, according to the Sydney woolselling Brokers Association. The association said, in a statement, the values could be quoted as equal to the highest point of the week. But drought-affected wools continued to show irregularity.
Demand for comeback and crossbred wools continued with rates for these types being fully maintained. Carding descriptions remained generally unchanged.
There was strong competition from Japan, the Continent and the United Kingdom, with support from Australian mills.
Demand held strongly on the final day of the Melbourne sale and prices were fully in line compared witb earlier in the week.
Japan and East Europe provided the main buying strength with support from the Continent, Britain and local mills, and 98 per cent of the 14,500 bales was sold.
