Cardigan Bay, the 10 year-old New Zealand-bred gelding, beat the four-year-old Bret Hanover, winner of 47 of his 51 starts, last week at Yonkers Raceway.
John Cashman, the Roosevelt racing secretary, has extended invitations to Adios Vic, Rivaltine and Adios Marches to com plete the field on June 4.
Adios Vic beat Bret Hanover in his three losses last year, all on mile tracks, and handed Cardigan Bay his last defeat, on October 23. 1965, at Hollywood Park.
Since then Cardigan Bay has won 10 races, beating Adios Vic twice by big margins. Victory in either race would make Cardigan Bay the biggest money-winning pace of all time
