Trout Farms Advocated

• N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 27. The Fishing Industry Board firmly supported the idea of trout farming in New Zealand and was making strong representations in favour of it to the Government, the board's chairman. Mr I. T. Cook, said in Invercargill.

He said he knew that there would be opposition

in some quarters to any such suggestion; but trout farming could have several benefits for the fishing industry and the national economy.

It would provide a boost to the tourist industry. Too often the cry was heard: "Here I am staying in a tourist hotel and I can’t get a taste of your trout.”

Trout, farmed commercially. would find a popular local and overseas market

“Trout fanning would not Interfere with the the pleasure of those people who are keen on trout fishing as a pastime. Safeguards could be made to ensure th«» it did not.” Mr Cook said.
