NASSELLA SUBSIDY
Board Seeks Details The North Canterbury Catchment Board is concerned at the delay in the release of details of conditions under which subsidy will be paid on the eradication of nassella tussock. The board, on the recommendation of the reserves committee, is to send a further letter to the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) urging him to expedite the release of the conditions.
In addition details of past expenditure by the board, and of estimates for the current year, will also be forwarded to Mr Taiboys. Mr R. M. D. Johnson, the chairman, said the board was concerned that the Minister of Agriculture had said 12 months ago that the board would get assistance in order to carry out its nassella tussock eradication work.
In the current year, he added, the board had had to make £l7OO available for this work out of its reserves.
“We’ve scratched along long enough. The work is expensive. All we want is for the Minister to set down the conditions so that we can go for the subsidy," he said.
