BANKS NOT OPEN
Late Flights From Mangere

AUCKLAND, May 27.
Five airlines operating out of Auckland are annoyed at the decision of the Associated Banks not to provide a currency exchange service at the airport after 9.30 p.m. Officials said they regarded the decision as an affront to overseas passengers and a reflection on Auckland’s claim to operate an airnort of international standard.
The late service, operated in rotation by the banks, was dropped quietly last Monday. Since then complaints have been made by overseas passengers.
There are comparatively few flights arriving or leaving the airport after 9.30 p.m.— this week five out of a total of 72 —but the airlines say all should be given the service. "Apparently the banks like taking overseas exchange from travellers, but don’t want to provide the facilities to give it back,” said one airline official.
"This decision is not in line with usual practice overseas and it’s not giving us a good tourist image.”
