Flood Protection At Whakatane
<N Z. Press Association) WHAKATANE. May 17. Cabinet has approved the £1.28 million flood protection scheme for the Whakatane river as a work of local and national importance. This will allow the Bay of Plenty Catchment Commission to proceed with the scheme without reference to the ratepayers. Tenders for the first phase of the scheme, the protection of the borough of Whakatane, will probably be called within a fortnight. The scheme is expected to be completed in five years.
