£9500 FOR GOBLET

A sixteenth century English glass goblet 7iin high fetched £9500 at Sotheby’s, the London art auctioneers, yesterday—a world record for a piece of fine glass. The goblet, sent for sale by the Duke of Northumberland, was made by Jacob Verzelini, an Italian who was granted a 21-year monopoly by Queen Elizabeth I for making Venetian glass in England.
