WRECKAGE OF DC3

Navy Attempt At Raising (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 17. Royal New Zealand Navy divers will attempt to raise the wreckage of the Polynesian Airways DC3 which crashed in the sea off Samoa last week. Three men from the supply ship Endeavour, which is now in the area, will make an assessment of the task and the main work will be undertaken by a team of 10 from H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel, Auckland. The Philomel’s diving officer, Lieutenant-Commander T. H. Wickman, will leave by air tomorrow for Apia, and the rest of the party will travel by R.N.Z.A.F. Hercules next week.

The Endeavour’s diving team now engaged on the task, is Sub-Lieutenant J. Crownshaw, of Hikurangi, Leading Seaman E. G. Nicholson, of Auckland, and Electrical Mechanic B. W. Huntley, of Dunedin.
