GOLF CLUB SALE
Land Brings £33,000
“The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, May 16.
The Otago Golf Club has sold four acres and threequarters of its Balmacewen course to John McGlashan College for £33,000. This was announced by the club captain (Mr S. J. Lambert). The area sold includes the twelfth green and part of the twelfth fairway. John McGlashan College has bought the land for development as playing fields.
The 400 club members had been notified of the sale by circular, Mr Lambert said. At a special meeting in December members had approved the sale of parts of the course to raise money for a new clubhouse. Other sections of the course would later be offered for sale, Mr Lambert said. These included the present clubhouse and green, the car park and trundler shed, and the land behind the second green.
The new club house would cost about £60,000 and ancillary development, such as roading and parking, course alterations, and new course equipment, would cost another £25,000.
