MEAT TO JAPAN
Expanding Trade (N.Z. Press Association! NAPIER, May 16. An expanding meat trade between New Zealand and Japan is envisaged by Mr M. McSporran, of Napier, who next month will become the Asian representative of the New Zealand Meat Board. Until recently, Mr McSporran worked for Williams and Kettle, Ltd. He will leave New Zealand on May 22 and expects to be based in Tokyo, for five or six years. He will work in Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Malaysia, where the promotion of New Zealand meat is to be stepped up. “New Zealand will begin an intensive lamb promotion campaign in Japan’s second city, Osaka, which has a population of more than 5,000,000,” said Mr McSporran. The mutton campaign would be extended into two new high density population areas, Nagoya and KagoshimaFukuoka, and would be stepped up in the Tokyo area, where mutton was already established.
“Our means of promotion will include television programmes, cookery demonstrations, newspaper and transport advertising, public relations activity, point of sale promotion and co-operation with butchers and leading chefs,” Mr McSporran said.
