HOUSING BLOCK
Second-Stage Contract A £72,020 tender by T. P. Capon was accepted by the City Council last evening for the construction of the second block in the Salisbury street reclamation scheme. The contract is for 12 twobedroom flats, six one-bed-room flats and services, with a total area of 14,946 square feet. The design and construction of the block were similar to the revised first, block, the city development committee said. Tenders were approximately 20 per cent higher than those received for the first block a little more than two years ago. Investigation showed that the higher tenders were a result of extra piling being necessary, an increase in blockwork and higher demand among subcontractors.
