Demonstration By Saigon Catholics
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter —Copyright) SAIGON, April 25. Three thousand Roman Catholics demonstrated in Saigon yesterday and heard speakers attack South Vietnam’s ruling military junta as “incapable” and “cowardly.” The demonstration, which was peaceful, ended with a mile-long march to one of the
.capital’s principal Roman Catholic churches. The attacks on the Government resulted from incidents in Central Vietnam where Opposition groups have recently clashed with Roman Catholics and members of the Vietnamese Nationalist Party. Speakers at the 90-minute meeting in the capital’s Chinese quarter of Cholon said the Government had shown its incapacity to provide security for Catholics, particularly in h the northern garrison town of a Da Nang where four Catholics e were wounded in a grenade incident last week. Later, a crowd estimated at 2500 paraded through the streets of the town of Thu Due, five miles north of Saigon, in a similar demonstration.
