FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep.depression in the Tasman Sea is advancing rapidly towards central New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura coast.—Moderate winds mainly between east and south; over*, cast; rain in the ranges and occasional periods of mainly light rain elsewhere. Cool. Outlook: showers. Marlborough and Nelson.—Strong northerly winds; gale force in some exposed northern areas; overcast, with further rain; some heavy falls likely. Outlook: improving. Buller and Westland.—North or north-east winds becoming strong, especially in the Buller area; overcast, with widespread rain; some heavy falls likely in the north; moderate temperatures.
