PLANE IN SEA

Hit Soft Sand Taking Off (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 25. Two men escaped with a ducking when a light aircraft flipped over into the sea while attempting to take off from Palmer’s Beach, Great Barrier Island, on Sunday evening. The pilot, Mr E. A. Hollick, of 33 Alexandra street, Te Awamutu, and his companion, scrambled from the cockpit and waded ashore in shallow water. The aircraft, a privatelyowned Tiger Moth, was extensively damaged. The two men bad flown to Great Barrier Island for a week-end underwater fishing trip. On taking off, the wheels of the plane caught in a patch of soft sand. The aircraft slewed around and tipped over into the sea. The plane was hauled from the water by a tractor. Today it was towed two miles along the beach to Claris Aerodrome.
