Brooch Worn When the Queen Mother received guests on the Royal yacht Britanna on Saturday evening she wore the greenstone brooch given to her by the citizens of Christchurch. As the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) arrived. Her Majesty patted the brooch, and Mr Manning, who had presented the brooch that morning, smiled in appreciation. Bells For Visitor To mark the visit of the Queen Mother to Christchurch, eight members of the Christchurch Cathedral Society of Bellringers rang a quarter peal of plain bob major—1344 changes in 55 minutes—on Sunday afternoon. Those who took part were: treble, Mr J. Dunn: second, Miss L. Stevens; third, Mr P. Perry; fourth, Mr J. H. G. Gardner: fifth, Mr N. F. Reeve; sixth, Mr R. G. J. Bennett; seventh, Mr C. H. Ward; tenor, Mr R. H. Idle (conductor). Cooler Weather Distinctly cooler temperatures and unsettled conditions later in the day were main features of yesterday’s weather. The maximum temperature was 58 degrees at Harewood soon after 3 p.m. After early-morning fog the weather remained overcast, with a north-easterly wind. This turned to the south after 3 p.m., and rain began in the evening. Temperatures were much warmer on Saturday and Sunday, the maximum on Saturday being 68 degrees and on Sunday 67 degrees.
