COMMUNITY CENTRE
Urgent Status Given The plans for the Fendalton Community Centre in the school grounds would be treated as an urgent matter, the Waimairi County Council decided. Cr. O. C. Mitchell, the county chairman, said the council had been discussing it for months, and many residents had been telephoning him asking when something was going to be done. “I move we take the matter as urgent.” be said. “The plans should be completed and tenders called as soon as possible.” “Does this mean it takes priority, over all other work?” asked the county engineer (Mr L Calvert). “ “All I ask is urgency,” said the chairman. “I don’t mean that everything else should be dropped, but that it be done as soon as possible.” Mr K. Maclachlan, the county clerk, said there was £30,000 in hand for the project, and subsidies would bring it up to the full £47,000 required.
