Six Tenders At Same Price
(N Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, April 22
The Auckland City Council works committee will recommend to the council that it buys bulk bitumen and emulsion from all six of the firms who recently submitted identical tender prices. The council suspected ringtendering and referred the tenders back to the committee for a report. Mr A. J. Dickson, the city engineer, told the committee that import licences for this material had been cancelled. The Marsden Point oil refinery, the only source of supply, was not able to meet the present demand. “This would possibly account for the uniform tender prices,” said Mr Dickson. “However, it is difficult to see why all rates should be identical when some suppliers have more modern equipment than others for mixing, blending and spraying and cartage to council districts varies in distance from the suppliers’ depots.”
