Magistrate’s Court Probation And Fine For Theft Of TV Set

Gerald Vincent Hood, aged 32. an engineer, was fined £l5, placed on probation for 18 months, and ordered to rene a prohibition order when he appeared for sentence before Mr E. A. OBSCENE LANGUAGE A fine of £lO was imposed on Kay Mary Lawson, aged 22. a fish packer, when she appeared on a charge of using obscene language in the foyer of the Central Police Station on April 21. She pleaded guilty. REMANDED Leonard James Staples, aged 43, a wig maker, charged with assaulting Leilani Maeva Staples on April 20. was remanded on bail to May 5. Suppression of name was refused. Sergeant Townshend said there was no objection to the remand, but if bail was allowed substantial securities were asked for. Norman Frederick Beynon. aged IS. an apprentice carpenter was convicted anc fined £l5. d.squaiified from driving for 18 months, and ordered to attend a course of traffic lectures. On a charge of having no warrant of fitness he was fined 13. He pleaded guilty to both charges.

YOUTH FINED A youth who attempted to set fire to rubbish in a telephone booth in Cathedra square on April 2 was convicted and fined £l2 10s on a charge of behaving in a disorderly manner. He was Francis Mowat Byrne, aged 19 unemployed (Mr A. P. C. Tipping), who pleaded not guilty. He was ordered to makt restitution of £1 ss. Charges against Byrne and his twin brother. Michael McNamara Byrne, a factory workman (Mr Tipping) of wilfully damaging a telephone booth in Ferry road on the same date were dismissed Both pleaded not guilty The Magistrate said no evidence of the value of the damage had been given by any person who had examined the booth (Before Mr H. J. Evans, S.M.) CHARGE DISMISSED A charge against Michae Waretini. aged 21. a truckdriver (Mr D. H. Stringer), o< being a rogue and vagabond pn that he was found by night without lawful excuse at 109 Chester street was dismissed. The Magistrate said he was satisfied Waretini was looking for his girl friend s house and that he had a lawful excuse for being on the premises. INDECENT ASSAULT A man. whose name was sup pressed (Mr G. R Lascelies). was convicted on a charge oi indecently assaulting a male under 16 on February 27. He pleaded not guilty. He was remanded on bail to April 28 for sentence.
