Council Firm On Decision
“The Press’* Special Service. AUCKLAND, April 22. The Mount Albert Borough Council has refused to rescind a resolution made in February which declared a non-profit railway enthusiasts’ publication a commercial venture in a residential zone. A deputation of the six men involved in the publication asked the council to rescind its decision and to apologise for threatening to take legal action. They also asked that an apology be made to the owners of the garage in which the monthly magazine was published, for undue and unfair publicity.
The printers of the magazine removed the press earlier this month to a shop in Glen . Eden with the approval of the Glen Eden Borough Council. A member of the Mount Albert council, Mr G. N. Kenny, said it was obvious the council had had to take direct action on a breach of the Town and Country Planning Act.
“It is not doubted that the boys were doing a good job but a breach had occurred and it was our duty as councillors to take action,” he said.
There was therefore no option but to refuse the requests of the deputation.
