EASTER DAY
Synod Approve Fixed Date
(N.Z. Press Association)
DUNEDIN, April 22.
A proposal for a fixed date for Easter was approved by the Anglican General Synod in Dunedin today. The Rev. S. F. N. Waymouth, Archdeacon of Hawke’s Bay, said the research secretary of the World Council of Churches had asked the province to consider the desirability of having a common date for Easter throughout Christendom.
The Bishops of the Church had considered the proposal for a fixed Easter “and did not disapprove.”
The Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches were also being consulted on the question and any decision would be world-wide. The Synod also approved the proposal to fix Easter Day as the Sunday after the second Saturday in April.
