Fleet Largest In History

NORFOLK (Virginia), April 22
The Soviet Union has the largest submarine fleet in history, including a sizeable number of long-range craft, the United States Navy Secretary (Mr Nitze) said yesterday. “Increased Soviet naval activity is not confined to the submarine fleet,” he said. “They are also developing the capability for high seas operations away from their confined home waters, replenishing at sea, as our navies long ;ago found advantageous.
Election Speech.-Presi-dent de Gaulle is expected to launch the Gaullist campaign for next spring’s general elections with a major speech in the northern capital of Lille tomorrow. (Paris, April 22.)
