Re-erection Of Old Houses
Sir, —I see in your columns that the Amuri County has rightly prohibited the re-erec-tion of old houses. It is a pity that the Westland County does not apply the same rule. The village Of Franz Josef Glacier, which ideally should be developed to the highest standard of alpine village, has just had two dis-graceful-looking shacks deposited there. One is apparently astride the boundary of a section. It would be interesting to know if building permits were issued for both these buildings and what the members of the Westland County think of their presence. They have already been the subject of much scathing comment from visiting tourists.—Yours, etc., EYESORE. April 15, 1966.
[The Westland County Council engineer (Mr B. G. Dowrick) said: “This matter is being investigated and any breach of building by-laws will be dealt with in the appropriate manner.”]
