PAYMENT OF NURSES
“B.M.A. Worst Offenders” CN.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 21. The worst offenders regarding payment of registered nurses were members of the British Medical Association, Mrs M. C. Hobbs, of Henderson, told the annual conference of the Registered Nurses’ Association today. The Henderson branch, as a subject for discussion, had suggested to the conference that a minimum scale be fixed for registered nurses engaged in private duty. An Auckland secondary school, the branch noted, had offered a position for a registered nurse at a salary of £3OO a year. If people required a registered nurse, they should be prepared to pay the ruling rate of approximately 9s 6d an hour, Mrs Hobbs said. She said it offended against the people who had worked to achieve the ruling rates and against the nurses who had worked to gain registration.
