Terrific The St. Leger Fancy

**Thc Press” Special Service

AUCKLAND.

The Auckland colt, Terrific, which ran a record in the New Zealand St. Leger two starts ago, looks a fine winning chance in the £1750 Great Northern St. Leger at Ellerslie today.

When acceptances were taken on Saturday night the St. Leger had a field of six. None of Terrific’s rivals has shown the same form over a distance. Only Simenson and Sentry have won further than a mile. Sentry in hack class and Simenson in open company at Awapuni two starts ago. Considerable interest will be taken in the appearance of Devastation. Up to a mile Devastation is the best three-year-old in New Zealand. Lu Filou, which has been In great form over longer distances in recent weeks, will be one to beat in the first leg of the T.A.B. double, the H. O. Nolan Handicap. His toughest rivals may be Golden Defoe, Creolian and Tardini. The grand galloper, Rochdale, a stablemate of Lu Filou, will try for a notable double in the £2OOO Islington Handicap. the second leg of the T.A.B. double. This time, however. he might have to yield to Silver Sunset. Silver Sunset finished a cose fifth behind Rochdale in the Easter Handicap and will meet the Te Awamutu gelding on 81b better terms. The track will be easy after rain last night. Selections: —
