PACIFIC CUP
Ist Heat To De Thier (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, April 10. New Zealanders dominated the opening heat of the Pacific Cup—the inter-Dominion Finn class yachting championship—on Botany Bay today. They took the first three places in a close race. B. G. de Thier, in Finnfarbi, won by eight seconds. S. Letcher in Finnegans Wake was second, and J. Farmer, in Vanity Sue, was third. The first Australian home was P. Burford in Aussia I, who was fourth.
De Thier won by only eight seconds with a mere two seconds separating the minor placegetters. The race was sailed in steady 10 to 12 m.p.h. breezes after lack of wind had caused the heat to be postponed in the morning. Two more heats will be sailed tomorrow.
