CA THOLICRA CE FASHIONS
Women patrons attending the New ZeaI a n d Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting at Addington on Saturday demonstrated a catholic fashion choice—everything from sleeveless summer frocks to fulllength winter fur coats.
In spite of a hot dry nor’ wester which pushed the temperature towards 80 degrees, there were just as many women wearing autumn clothes as there were in summer outfits. Meet women favoured suits in wool or linen. Those wearing wool ensembles soon removed their coats in the heat.
Plain colours were the popular choice in shades of brown,
[blue, pink, black, cream and white. There was also a sprinkling of houndstooth checks in black and white, and green and white. Brown was a favourite accessory colour, orange was also popular and was teamed with black and creams and black.
Most women preferred their hemlines just below the knee, but there were many skirts rising from mid-knee to about one inch and a half above. Teamed with short thick-heel-ed shoes, this length looked very smart.
One patron chose a twopiece powderblue boucle suit. Her matching hat of small flowers followed the shape of her head and flowed into a bow at the back. Over the jacket she wore a necklet of light pastel mink tails. Her accessories were brown. Another striking outfit was a royal blue suit with a fitting jacket worn over a coral pink
satin blouse covered with royal blue dots. This was teamed with a matching wide back-turned brim hat. Mrs R. W. Saunders, wife of the president of the club, wore a two-piece single-breast-ed suit with a plain dark grey skirt and a grey-and-white check jacket. Her hat was a dark grey deep-brimm-ed breton covered with white flecks.
The wife of the vice-presi-dent, Mrs G. W. Blaxall chose a navy and lime check suit. The jacket was shaped to the line of the body and the skirt featured box pleats round the
lower half. Her navy hat matched her suit. Guests included Mesdames J. K. Davidson, C. E. Hoy, C. S. Thomas, C. E. Evans, D. McCormick,-E. T. McDermott, L. S. Smart, H. F. Butland, A. G. Jamies, A. J. Nicholl, T. Thomas, J. Cocks, P. Lister, B. J. Wilks, A. A. Wilson, M. Gould, J. D. Gardiner, B. H. Ballin. R. L. Talbot and D. McFarlane.
