EXTENDED SEASON
Fishing Until End Of May
Final approval for the extension of the fishing season in the Ashley river to the end of May is expected at a meeting of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society next Wednesday. The chairman of the fish committee (Mr G. Ferris) said the move to extend the season for experimental purposes had the sanction of the Marine Department. The area where fishing would be permitted would be between the upper reaches of the lagoon and the tenth groyne above Femside. Mr Ferris said that, subject to final approval of the scheme, the society would invite fishermen to seek free permits to fish in the area during the extended period.
