POPULATION CHANGES

Mt. Herbert Decrease There was a 4.5 per cent population decrease in Mount Herbert County, according to the third list of provisional 1966 census results released by the Government Statistician. In the 1961 census the county had a population of 627. This year it dropped to 599. By comparison there was a 2.8 per cent increase in Lyttelton borough, which now has 3495 persons, compareci with 3400 in 1961. Brunner borough also showed a population loss. It now has 931 persons, compared with 1073 in 1961—a 13,2 per cent decrease. In the. following results the 1961 census figure is given first, then that of 1966.
